How do I log my steps in the exercise section?

I found a calculator online that estimates calories burned using a pedometer... hopefully this helps you

mfp logs based on activity and time. Not steps, unless you have a fitbit synced to it.
If you are just going about your daily activity, don't count it at all. If its something "extra" The best way is to figure out time and speed.
here is something to get you started. Once you figure out your speed it should be easy based on your pedometer reading.

I bought a fitbit and let it sync my steps to the site so I don't have to worry about it! A little pricey but it has been worth it for me.0

You don't log them, if you walk a certain amount each day it should be reflected in your daily caloric intake, which is based on your selected activity level. Some walking would be assumed in the sedentary setting, if that is what you chose.
If it was added exercise and you are set at sedentary then you could log walking for the amount of time you walked.0
