PKU friends

I am looking for friends with the rare genetic disorder known as PKU.

I'm an adult PKU patient returning to the prescribed low-protein diet after a considerable chunk of my life away from it.
It's not an easy way to live, but the benefits outweigh the difficulty of the lifestyle. I'm happy to provide any support I can.

I tell my friends who don't have experience with PKU this:
Imagine a diet where you can eat fruits, vegetables, and any food product with 1g protein or less per serving. They think I'm crazy, but this is not far off from my reality.

I wondered. I didn’t know what you could eat. I can’t imagine eating that little and being overweight.
If I didn’t eat meat or dairy, I’d weigh about 10 pounds. Lol. But really,
What about pasta, bread? I’ve never paid attention to the protein content.
I guess beans are out, too.
    Hugs!

About being overweight with PKU: Know what doesn’t have protein? Sugar. You can figure the rest out on your own. :D

Right there with you, spent most of my teens eating nothing but sugar because it was a "free food."
