I do this all the time, whether I am sad, frustrated, tired or happy, I result to food. Has anyone worked through this? I have a big sweet tooth and am vegan but will always find something to eat, if I have nothing sweet in it will be something else x

    Have you seen a therapist?

I was able to work through it on my own. I channel my emotions into other avenues (most recently learning some MMA moves from the hubby).

I also keep cues around to remind myself NOT to do the emotional eating such as articles related to weight lifting, photos from my skinnier days, that dress I really want to fit into again, etc. If I don’t have anything like that available, I focus on what size pants I’m wearing. I fit into 12s again and can ALMOST get into my 10s. When I started, I was on the verge of needing to purchase 18s (and probably should have already as my 16s were SO tight).

Furthermore, I focus on my health. My resting heart rate is way down. It was in the 90s now it’s in the low 60s. My joint pain (knees) is greatly reduced. My back hurts less, I have more energy.

I don’t want to undo all the good that I’ve done, so I focus on that (or letting the frustrations out on the punching bag) to keep from resorting to old bad habits.

I'm very much an emotional eater. I had to work on the emotions to get a grasp over the eating, just trying to stop the eating didn't work for me. I went through a depressive period recently and the transitional period after treatment caused me to eat a lot, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it would have been had I not had my therapist to help me through my emotions.
