Birds eye steamfresh frozen veggies?

Im not a big veggie eater lol but is the birds eye frozen veggies good for you? I hear people say when its frozen it loses all nutritional value sooo.. I dont want to eat it if it isnt healthy ya know?

Usually frozen veggies are fine, but you have to look out for the sodium. If it has any kind of sauce on it, basically that means 'loaded with sodium'. Better to get the 'fresh' frozen, meaning just frozen veggies, no sauce included.0

If you are looking at what I think you are, which is a mix of carrots, corn, peas and green beans, you are perfectly fine. No sauce. No added salt. Perfectly healthy.

Frozen veggies are MUCH better than canned and as the above poster said, plain veggies (no sauce) are best. No, 4mg is not a lot. It sounds like you probably got plain steam fresh veggies...good choice.0

4g of sodium is a LOT...100% DV (and that's intended as a MAX) is 2.5g

Do you mean 4 mg? That would be low sodium.
The broccoli with cheese sauce is 500mg per serving .... so yummy. I add cooked carrots (no salt added) .... to double the serving size.0 -

Frozen vegetables are frozen at peak freshness, so they often have more nutrients than fresh vegetables you are buying in the store, assuming you are cooking both. I love Birds Eye brand. This week my local Publix has them all half price, so I loaded up. I only buy pure vegetables - the once with sauce add insane amounts of calories. I usually buy the ones that you can microwave in the bag.0

I second sooze and breyn. Veggie heirarchy = fresh>frozen>canned. sauce= sodium. Better frozen than no veggies at all0

I live on birds eye from veggie and other frozen veggie. The steam bags are very convenient. My favs are broccoli and brussel sprouts.0

Sodium limit per day is about 1500 mgs. So 4 mg is LOW, LOW, LOW!!!

If you can not buy fresh, frozen is the next best thing. It is as close to fresh as you can get and much healthier than buying canned.0

Regular veg give you more goodness than frozen but that does not mean frozen is not healthy. They just have less vitamins than fresh but still better than nearly all the food you can come across. So go for it.0

We eat those quite a bit at my house! We usually have the broccoli and green beans. (They do have a good brown rice one, too!) If you visit there website, you can print off coupons.0

One day out of curiosity I looked up the nutritional info for fresh broccoli vs frozen broccoli. Aside from the frozen broccoli listing 0 iron, there was hardly a difference (I have low iron so it's something I wouldn't care about otherwise). I eat fresh when possible but sometimes that isn't convenient so I have lots of frozen on hand. They are perfectly fine and it's better to eat them then not eat any at all.0

^This. Also, budget wise it fits better than fresh because I don't have to worry about the food going bad. Sometimes plans don't always work out (food wise) and I dislike wasting food like that. Plus, I have a hard time digesting many fresh vegetables.0 -

Where did you look it up? Frozen actually has more iron content....also, more fiber, more calcium, more zinc...

Lately I've been eating lots of the Steamfresh brussels sprouts, my new fav. Fresh veggies do not always have more nutrients than their frozen counterparts, depending on how you cook them. I saw a study a few weeks ago that if you steam or boil the heck out of a veggie (broccoli for instance) until it gets soft, it starts to lose a lot of its original nutrients to whatever water is in the pot. I had to do a double-take on that one...because I do like my fresh broccoli to be on the softer side of cooked! :ohwell:0

Frozen = processed = unclean
Birds eye steam fresh veg can be cooked in the microwave and are no more unhealthy or unclean as vegetables that are overcooked from fresh?
Vegetables are vitamin soluble so if you cook them from fresh from the ground then you can lose all the nutrients if you overcook them in water.
If you are going to cook veggies then stir fry or eat raw. If not go with steam packs.0 -
