Water retention/ edema- weight fluctuations

hi all, I've a question to ask regarding weight fluctuations and water retention.
I understand that day to day weight fluctuation is normal. However a few months ago i experienced water retention/edema in my feet and lower legs but after some time it got much better and now my feet dont swell like before. But i do notice that there's still slight water retention in my lower legs esp when im awake more early on mornings (eg. on weekdays). On weekends when i spend more time in bed, my legs are elevated hence the water retention is not as bad (if any).
So on weekdays when i weigh myself each day, the weight will be much higher than on weekends.
So Qn 1, is 1kg of water retention normal?
Qn2, what can cause such water retention? By mid day (on weekdays), i do notice slightly bigger feet & legs alr...
Please help thank you!

Oh yes, I experience the same. Well, when I'm not working from home. At home I tend to sit cross-legged, one leg up, then the other one, then cross-legged again and this is fairly under control. When working from the office I find that my weight is highest on Saturday mornings and lowest on Monday mornings and I fully attribute that to bit of water retention from sitting behind a desk.0

Why it happens... being at a certain age, slight venal problems that come with certain age, being a woman and having softer tissue that just lends itself to holding onto water... I'm healthy and don't worry about 1kg of waterweight variation.0

Too much salt and being sedentary are the two things that tend to make me retain more water.
And my weight easily fluctuates +-3 lbs (1.36 kg) from day to day.0 -
It would be a good thing to discuss with your doctor, when you see him/her. While 1kg shifts in water weight are fairly common, having noticeable water accumulation in a certain part of the body is somewhat less common, and could relate to health conditions that would benefit from attention.
I'm not trying to be scary, and not necessarily saying you should schedule an emergency appointment if everything else feels/seems fine, but it would be a good thing to ask about on your next routine doctor visit, just being conservative.3 -

Some people have leakier valves in their lymph system, which can cause water retention in the lower legs. This is often genetic, so perhaps your relatives have the same issue.
Absolutely bring it up at your next routine visit with your doctor, as AnnPT77 suggested. Your doctor could have some simple ideas to help (for example, compression socks, but absolutely wait until you speak with your doctor before trying).
This is a common issue in my family, although I don't have it.1
