Looking to lose my "COVID 15" and start a healthier lifestyle. Never really went on a diet much before - hoping this will help.

Welcome to MFP!
I've been here a while (with some success) and think that the simpler we keep things, the easier it is to stick with it. Just getting a calorie goal from MFP, logging what one eats, sticking with it for a few weeks to average out results, and then adjusting if needed: That can really work. Fancy rules-oriented "diets" are optional, useful if they help a person, but a non-essential complication if they make things tougher.
