“Suffering is the true test of life”

Sure, in some cases, but I also prefer to avoid suffering if possible 😉
Sweating, sore muscles, etc. from working out hard, fine.
But where weight loss is concerned, I much prefer going 'slow and steady'. There are no bonus points for suffering by eating at an aggressive deficit or eliminating all the foods we like, and it's a lot more likely we'll give up. So dedication and discipline: yes! Suffering: not so much.5 -
*Voluntary* suffering? Nah, not if I can reach my goals without it, and I usually can - even stretch goals.
Suffering sounds really noble and dramatic, but it's pretty optional, if you ask me, when it comes to things I have choices about. (Life will deliver a portion of suffering, in ways I have no power over.)
But maybe we just define "suffering" differently. 🤷♀️ How a person defines things can be pretty important. I enjoy a nice challenge, in pursuit of important goals. And working hard is kinda fun.6 -
No, thank you. Suffering is pretty much going to insure I quit, especially diet wise.
I enjoy my foods and I enjoy my exercise. Why make something hard when there is no reason to?!?4 -
Sorry to disagree you, buddy, but I disagree, on the basis of what the other lovely ladies said.
However, you indicated earlier you were a former pro boxer. I would imagine you guys have a whole different mindset than a pleb like me. You probably have to!
Whatever works for you.
I would maybe rephrase it a little bit:
“Suffering and overcoming is the true test of life”.
Cheers! 😘2 -
I'd rather learn from the experience of others and not go through the suffering if at all possible.
The ability to suffer, but more importantly to continue on with whatever - is a test though.
Of life in general? eh....
Now to some lifting - which won't involve what I'd consider suffering, but it will be hard and I'll have to press on when body says enough, to make sure it really was.1
