Hello,
I have a question I went in-line oller skating, and I don't know how to skate. So I'm learning..But I wanted to know if skating is a exercise. I skated for 2 hrs. I was drenched in sweat my shirt, pants and everything was wet. My legs are extremely sore. Technically was that exercise or just me being active.

You can call it whatever you like, but I imagine it increased your heart rate, worked some muscles a little more than usual, and burned more calories than if you hadn't done it. So I'd put it down as exercise, if you're asking for logging reasons.0

Skating is a great workout. You get to have fun while you exercise! You’re working all of your lower body and your core. Unfortunately, I’m not too good at it lol!2

Of course it's exercise, and a darn good calorie burner, too! I believe Myfitnesspal has it listed as an option. If not,you can find calories burned/min/body weight online.2

Cool! I love inline skating! I would think that the calorie burn is somewhere between that of walking and running: it's really easy to get up to speed and go at higher velocity but requires more muscle movement than walking.1

Definitely exercise. I ice skate and it's a workout. It's a leg workout for sure since you should keep your knees bent most of the time and you might not realize you're using your core a lot to keep your balance so definitely it's a workout0

I just ordered roller skates to add a fun workout with my adult daughter. She's 24 and living at home (unplanned consequence of the pandemic). She can't date, see friends, hang out in bars, etc. She's always looking for a fun way to be active since both of our gyms are closed. My skates shipped this week. Hers should arrive soon as well. I'm not sure how I'll log this, but whatever. I'm excited for the workout! It's definitely exercise!!0

I used to roller skate for exercise. along with diet i lost 50 pounds doing so. My rink is closed from covid right now 😩0

Definitely a workout, especially if you skate outside..I’ve never worn a fitness tracker to know how many calories I burned. When you’re going into the wind or at a incline you notice! I have skates not blades. They require a different push off than blades, more of a sideways motion. I also incorporate some “tricks” which work different muscles.
Once you are confident, and can keep going, you will really feel the burn in your legs. And it is fun!!! Makes you feel like a kid.0 -
Why would it not be exercise? It is a sport Any skaters please free to add me. I compete and coach both ice and roller0

She posted this two years ago, so hopefully figured it out.
