Night shift and managing food/exercise

11pm-7am shift hotel worker here. How do other night witches manage their food/exercise/life balance? Looking for help because I'm either just terrible and snack loads at work or I never eat at work and just eat breakfast when I get home then dinner when I wake up and neither of these are ideal solutions...

i make sure i meal plan and bring in a 'lunch' and 'dinner' ! increase the carbs to try to hold off sugar cravings, i think my next set of nights i'm going to add in chromium pills to help curb sugar cravings,

then with regards to exercise, i tend to hold off on exercise when i'm working nights but i'm planning to add in ankle weights on my walk otw to work and back? i'm typically so burnt out that i find i gain weight just bc i forget to drink water, my body is out of sync so i get constipated, sleep deprivation puts lbs on :( but i do my best like

Haven't worked that shift in ages (early 20s), but I treated it pretty much the same as I treat and 8-5...the time spent working is the same...it's just a different time of day. I would usually get off at 7 and my cousin and I would head to the gym or go for a run or whatever. I'd get home and have a meal...breakfast...dinner, whatever you want to call it. Usually in bed by around 1 in the afternoon and up around 9...another meal and off to work and I usually brown bagged my "lunch".

Same as @cwolfman13. I worked 11-7 or 12-8 in my 20s and I treated it the same as I would working day shift. I ate my first mean around 3 am - food I brought from home. If I was hungry, I ate a snack before that and maybe shifted my first meal to 4. I would eat something else from home before exercising. My last meal was around 11-noon and I went to bed around 2-3 pm. I found this gave me the best energy and ease to stay awake for work.

Most of my coworkers would go home and sleep immediately after work because they had families. Then they would take a nap before going to work. They ate their meals during day time hours and had a snack only at work.

As far as work/life/exercise balance...I didn’t see or talk to friends or family much during those years. I had to stick to my schedule or I was physically and mentally exhausted. Exercise, eating well and sleep were essential.
