the general recommendation by health professionals is that one can eat 2,500 mg a day, but if you have high blood pressure or such like that, you should go no more than 1,500.0 -
Unless you have high BP or are sensitive and retain water easily, there's no reason to worry too much about it. In general, 2500 mg is the RDA for normal people and under 1500 for high BP people. Here in Korea (where I live), the average daily intake is 6,000-7,000 mg. If you go high one day and have water retention for several days after, maybe lower your intake.0

You will have to experiment with it. I find that during the summer when I am sweating a lot that I need >4,000 mg to prevent headaches and cramping.0
