Los Pinos Peak #2/18

I challenged myself to climb 18 peaks this year so I would have a goal even if my hiking travel gets cancelled again. Los Pinos Peak is not that high at 4510 but the 7.25 Miles to get there is another story. The trail starts out steep with the first two miles climbing to a flag.

Here is the trail after the flag.

The trail then climbs up and over a number of lesser peaks. The trail is pretty decent but rocky in some places.

The last 1.5 miles to the peak climb through a burned out forest with fallen trees, huge overgrowth and you can’t see the top of the trail. I relied on my map and watch to gauge how far I had to go. This is a picture of a good part of this section.

Finally I got to the peak where I could see in the distance Lake Elsinore.

I’ve always wanted to hike this peak but I have to admit this was a tough one. Only 16 more to go!

That's gorgeous. Right now, my hikes are limited to a state forest near my house. I'm in Oregon, so it looks very different than that (as in--WET!). That must have been so satisfying. What a great goal for yourself! :)
