Hello! I am starting this back up after a 3 year absence. I was recently ill and lost 10lbs. It was not an ideal way to lose weight but it lit a fire under me because it had been so long since I saw my weight go down that I wanted it to continue. This app really helps with my diet because I thrive on structure. I have been meal prepping as much as possible. I am 30 years old, I work full time as a medical assistant and I am a part time student preparing for nursing school in the next year or so. No kids, just 2 dogs and a cat. I enjoy walks and riding my bike. I hate traditional work outs at the gym I find it boring and a little bit embarrassing. I hope to get over myself and hit up the gym soon though because I know I can use the strength training. My short term goal is to lose 10 lbs in 6 weeks. Long term I'd like to lose about 60lbs. I feel a little alone in this so accountability buddies would be nice. Hit me up and let's get healthy!

Strength training is definitely beneficial when losing weight (reduces muscle loss) and it's great for us ladies for improving bone density as we're more prone to osteoporosis. Good news is that you don't actually have to do it at the gym, if you're not comfortable there, there are all sorts of strength training routines you can do at home, many that require little to no equipment too - bodyweight workouts or dumbbell workouts are a good start.

What tinkerbellang83 said. And adding that this thread contains information about some programs of that type (even though the thread title might make you think it was only about lifting actual barbell-type weights, there's bodyweight and such in there):

Welcome to MFP, by the way!
  • Hi ebautista0425! I’m returning after a several year hiatus and I’m also trying to lose 60 pounds. I’ve been doing a bit of yoga for core strength. Like you, I find the gym boring as well. I’m hoping to put my resistance bands and dumb bell set to use soon. I’m finding that I’m feeling better with daily activity, including playing Just Dance on the switch! 😂
