Scheduling Your Exercise

I've found that my daily success is tied to outlining a schedule with my goals. Getting them done in the morning helps me personally because by the end of the day my energy is typical spent. 6AM is my go-to start time.

I'd love to hear anyone else's plan and what's helps them maintain.

I realized that I could eat breakfast at work and free up 35 minutes in the mornings that I could use to do a quick workout and shower. I'm not comfortable going to a gym again just yet, and at this point I know I won't do it if I plan to exercise in the evenings after work, so morning workout it is. I haven't really done first-thing-in-the-morning workouts since college, I guess I figured I'd try to trick my brain into doing it before I could talk me out of it or something, but I actually really like it. My typical start time is about 7:10 AM, plus or minus five minutes - gotta feed the cats and put on some appropriate clothing first. That gives me time to complete a ~20-minute workout video and take a quick shower before getting dressed and heading out to work around 8:20. Friday mornings my start time is earlier so I do a shorter routine that also, mercifully, doesn't get me all gross and sweaty, so I can usually get away with washing my face and putting on a little extra deodorant, LOL.

Having a regular weekly workout schedule helps me a lot. If I have a longer event coming up (a tri or something), I'll follow a training plan. Right now I got nothing!

I'm a multi-sport guy, and it used to include swimming on Mondays and Fridays ( :'( ). Now, I'm mostly alternating between jogging and spinning, with an occasional day off. I'm trying to include a few days of weights and bands. I need to take my own advice here and create a schedule instead of just making a last minute decision each day.

I also prefer to workout in the morning, it gets it done for the day. However I've gone back to university as a career change and sometimes I have to fit it around classes instead, which I don't like as much.

I schedule what I am doing each day in my planner, but only the type - cardio/upper body/lower body. I use youtube and have created folders of different categories, and I tend to pick which exact video I am going to do the night before or even that morning. I find this stops me thinking 'ugh, hiit tomorrow' etc. and if I'm not feeling it I can go for a more 'fun' exercise instead of just sacking it off.

My performance sucks in the morning, so I don't do workouts in the morning. I usually go for a walk in the morning to start my day...nice and mellow with my travel coffee mug.

My schedule pretty much stays the same week to week unless something comes up that I need to move something around. I'm doing a structured program on Zwift for cycling and I'm in the weight room 3x per week. I do most of my stuff after work...either late afternoon or early evening except on weekends when I can go get stuff done mid morning.

My alarm goes off at 3am every day seven days a week. During the week I alternate cardio days and weight days. One thing I ended up having to do was accululate equipment and build my home gym, because I had every excuse not to go to the gym. On weekends, I still get up and work out, but then I add football or basketball drills with my sons. I have lost about 185lbs doing this over the coarse of 3 years.
Always remember, if your goals dont have deadlines, they are just wishes. Set those goals, set those deadlines and work towards them.

My pool requires lap lane reservations to ensure social distancing. I make reservations for the whole week, and once those reservations are in my calendar, I feel VERY obligated to keep the appointments :-)
