My Diet is LCHFMP
(Low Carb, High Fat, Moderate Protein - AKA: Keto)
August, 2017
66 year old, 6’1” male with knee and shoulder joint replacements, a carotid arterial stint, diagnosed to be pre-diabetic, taking Rx prescriptions for high BP and cholesterol, weighing in at 265 lbs… No genetic issues, doctors all said loose the extra weight and with any luck all my medical issues would resolve without medication.
Started doctor supervised diet, macro plan of 5% carbs, 75% fat and 20% protein. Using MyFitnessPal to plan and record food and water intake proved to be the right tool to make good on the macro plan. The first month was very difficult, after two months there was no going back and at the end of four months normal weight was achieved.
December, 2017
All blood work and urinalysis measurements recorded in normal ranges. Discontinued Rx medications.
It should be noted that there were no special foods, fasting or supplements involved. In the beginning strict dedication to limiting carbs to 25 to 30 grams is key. Staying within the macros as close as possible is very rewarding for once your body is acclimated you don’t get hungry and have plenty of energy.
2018 To Date
Maintaining normal weight and good health.
Weight gain noticed in daily scale readings crept in during periods of inattention to logging meals. The gains were from increased carb/protein consumption resulting in no ketone production (getting too technical here). Going back to logging meals in MyFitnessPal identified what needed to be corrected.
