  • I don't even know if I'm answering you properly right now, that's how much I know about how this site works... I just stick with the food & exercise menus. Boy howdy do I ever know how much more expensive it is to "eat right". I am hoping I will get used to the smaller portions & then it will even itself out. I am trying to stay alive for my kids & get the words "morbidly obese" taken off of my medical records... Good luck!!!

Hi - You've come to the right place. There are some amazing people/stories on here, most of the time they are doing by using Myfitnesspall (MFP) to log and help them keep track of their exercise vs how much calories eaten.

Here is my understanding how it works - to lose 1lb in weight you have to 'lose' 3500 calories - this is normally done by one of the following methods.

    1. Work out what your recommended calorie intake should be for your stature (MFP does this for you when you've entered your statistics) and then try to eat 500 calories less than that.

    2. You increase the amount of exercise you do and try to burn 500 calories per day (not easy every day will depend on how much time you have exercise)

    3. Use a combination of 1 & 2

I used the latter in combination with a couple of other things - I started walking at lunchtime for 30-40 minutes and also went out in the evening for another hour or so when I could. I also log everything down in to MFP without fail - it's a must - if you want to have that piece of cake or chocolate bar have it but log it.

When you start to see how much you are actually eating calorie wise you then realise (I did anyway) that there were lots of kit kats or snickers that I was having but didn't really need.

Since starting in December I've managed to lose over 2 stones in weight and still eat what I want chocolate and all!

I do exercise more than I used to but then again I feel great since losing the weight and I'm the one in control.

It isn't that difficult, start with a bit more walking than you currently do, cut back a little on what you eat and drink, log it and see how you go.

Good luck - send a friend request if you wish more information - there are a great bunch of people on here, very supportive and have lots of different ways they have achieved success.

You don't need weight watchers or Slim fast or whatever the latest diet thing is - eat sensibly and you too can achieve your dreams

Ever since i was disabled 10 years ago we have to basically live in poverty. I make 900$ a month, we are basically living on credit cards. My wife has over 100lbs to lose. We eat more often now and spend less then we did before eating processed foods. Electric company is always threatening to shut off our power. My wife wants to lose weight so we have to shop very smart. Lots of sweet potatoes, brown rice, eggs, veggies when they are not too expensive, oats, peanutbutter. Dont get overwhelmed with all the stuff you have to do. Starting is half your battle. Me personally want to bodybuild, I cant afford to eat like a bodybuilder. I have to do the best i can and hope our situation changes in the future.

I know it can be overwhelming to sort out all of the jargon! Eating healthy food is a bit more costly because you have to buy fresh stuff. I find it amazing and sad that fast food is cheaper than real food!

I've been watching my calories using ONLY myfitnesspal.com since June and have lost 24 lbs of the 50 I want to lose. I find the food diary to be very easy to use. The database of foods is extensive, and it's easy to enter your own recipes too. I've steadily lost 1.5 to 2 pounds each week, and haven't altered my exercise habits by much. I know there will come a day (probably soon) when I will hit a plateau and will need to make a drastic change. To that end I'm just trying to squeeze in a few extra walks - around the parking lot at lunchtime, or with my dog after work.

Don't concern yourself with all of the fancy tools available. All you really need is MFP and your two feet for walking. I wouldn't even concern myself with trying to calculate what you should be eating. Let the website do it for you! I find that logging in all my food, even on the "bad" days is easy and sort of makes a game of it. Maybe I only have 300 calories left for dinner, so I will walk my dog for 30 minutes to earn a few more. It's fun!

Send me a friend request if you want. I share my diary so you can see what I'm eating, Please don't get discouraged. You can do this!

My name is Chris and I am a beachbody coach, I started with beachbody couple of years ago with p90x. After doing it for couple of days lost interests. then last year I realized that i had to do something to change myself. I weighed 325 lbs with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I started again but this time participated in a challenge group with my Coach Doug. Did one round of p90x and lost 32 lbs..YEAHHH!!!! did Les miles COmbat and now doing Focus T25 and loving it. due to my daily shcedule i need something fast that will give me the same results. it's only 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week for 10 weeks, i'm down 60+ lbs now…. I made such a transformation that I wanted to help others like me with motivation and accountability. Would love to help you all as i was helped as well.
