I want steak

I looked up the amount of calories and fat a rib eye has (my favorite steak) and of course it was bad. Do you still have steak from time to time? What cut is enjoyable but more healthy? I imagine I won't be able to eat a whole steak so plan to fill my plate primarily with veggies to balance it out. We always grill steak so that should help some I would think. The database varied in the amount of fat and calories for a rib eye.

    I think sirloin or rump are leaner cuts than ribeye.

    Steak isn't "bad" if you make it fit into your calories for the day. There's no reason to totally cut out any foods that you like.

    I like NY strip steaks. If it's a huge one, I'll eat half of it and save the other half for a yummy steak sandwich the next day.

    If I know I'm having a big steak dinner, I might have a lighter lunch to account for it.

    That's a good idea to make a lot of vegetables for your sides, instead of more calorific sides like potatoes.

    Think of your calorie goal as a bank account...if you want to spend more calories on a steak, then just save them somewhere else.

    I still have rib eye. Or filet or pork ribs or whatever I want.

    Just not as often as I used to have it.

    For that matter, same with everything else. Ice cream. Potato chips. Hamburgers, fried fish, wings, nachos.

    Still have them.

    Not as often. :) I just make different choices most of the time and save that stuff for once a week.

    Rib eye is usually a very large piece of meat. Adjust the portion. Keep enjoying just in moderation. Grilled steak is very nice the next day sliced on top of a giant green salad.

    I eat NY strip steak once a week. Hasn't impeded my weight loss because I fit it in.

    If you want a steak, eat steak. Just account for it. Use a USDA entry for a raw steak of whatever cut, by weight. There are no "bad" foods and you are not "bad" for eating or not eating anything in particular. You also don't have to eat the entire steak in one sitting, you can get 2 or 3 meals out of one steak if you want to.

    Absolutely this! I love steak and enjoy a variety of cuts and ways of cooking it (it is -48 with the wind this week so no grill for us!). I find it more satisfying than chicken breast which makes it generally easier to fit in a caloric deficit range. If I had to choose a cut, it would be a great big juicy strip steak grilled to a perfect med rare with a balsamic sesame salad. Any leftovers the hubs and I don't eat we cut up and use in stir fry or stroganoff later in the week. Don't discount using the correct MFP entry though if you want to be as accurate as possible portioning it out, weigh raw and account for any marinades and toppings you may use.

    You can fit it in, but something like flank steak might be easier. There are lowfat (and thus low cal) cuts of beef, but the way you cook it will differ.

    I switched to marinated flank steak charcoal grilled or filet Mignon, pan fried in a pat of butter. For the filet, you only need 4 oz., about 300 calories.

    I'm having a big ribeye steak tonight, baked potato with butter/cheese/bacon and a side salad. I'll also have some wine.

    I adhere to a weekly budget where I eat a little under each day during the week and eat more on the weekends. That leaves me room to go over on a Friday and/or Saturday but yet still meet my weekly calorie goal.

    Yes, when I get rib eye from a restaurant I usually get three meals out of it.

    Sunday night is steak+potato+salad night. There are delicious cuts of steak that are as low as 150 calories for four ounces. The one tonight was particularly tender and yummy.

    If I’m skating close to calorie ceiling, I’ll have a smaller piece of steak, supplemented with a chicken breast.

    Both are fabulous grilled in an air crisper. I always cook extra for breakfast and salads throughout the week.

    I hardly eat steak as I don’t know how to cook it right but when I do I will do something like rib eye which I know is super high calorie per gram and have a smaller amount with lots of veggies and no other fat source or a bigger portion of a leaner cut and add other things to it like maybe avocado or sauce of some kind. I usually have 600-900 calories for dinner so can make it work with that

    I eat steak all the time. Beef tends to have a much greater impact on my hunger than other forms of meats. Generally, i do leaner cuts, but on special occasions or if i am craving it, I'll go with ribeye, filet mignon, or chuck.

    Below is what i had over the past week. The one with a butter sauce is a USDA Prime Filet. The bottom is a chuck roast.

    Both were reversed seared and finished on a grill

    I eat steak regularly too and there's no readon why you can't eat it w/in your xal limits,cprovided thay you do not have any political, ohilosophical or medical reason not to do so.

    It cals/fat are the main issue there are a couple of things I'd suggest:

    1) portion control; just eat as much steak as will fit w/in your cal limit, and

    2) remove excess fat before cooking

    Ribeyes are actually compised of 3 muscles held together w/a lot of intermuscular fat and sinew holding them together.

    You could reduce the amount of fat by removing the fat and seoarating the muscles into individual "steaks", wc will also reduce the portion sizes, and

    3) you can choose a less fatty type of steak, like flank, skirt or top round.

    Even, NY strip steaks, wc I grew up eating as a child bc my family owned a meat market, is less fatty than ribeye b4 the excess intermuscular fat is removed.

    Howerver, there's nothing better than eating a well marbled 1# NY strip steak griilled to a juicy & succulent med rare IMO, even though I sometimes only eat 1/2 and save the leftovers for later.
