Giving Up Carbs to lose Weight Good or Bad idea what do you think ?

Cutting down the carbs a little bit when trying to lose weight definitely helps me. I would never do full on keto or anything as I don't think it's healthy or sustainable to cut out entire food groups and brand foods as "bad" or have anything completely off limits. But certainly, eating less stodgey carbs and more protein is a good thing for weight loss for me.
Thank you for your reply - love your avatar , my son's a swimmer and we have several shirts with that saying on it. I tend to have more protein in my diet than carbs but that's just me. Cut out processed food and do all my own cooking for about a year now sad to say not big on veggies my doc gets on me all the thing but I eat a few to balance things out. Enjoy your day and just keep swimming and keep calm. 🥽🥽🥽

Keto works great for some people. If you have diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or PCOS, or if you constantly crave carby foods and they are your problem foods, keto may be worth it. Otherwise, it’s not necessary for weight loss, and can be inconvenient.
It’s also not necessary to go full keto to benefit from eating fewer carbs. When I was diagnosed with diabetes I went from eating a ton of sweet stuff, pizza, etc., to eating about 150g carbs per day, and lost a bunch of weight and got my a1c into normal range.
You ate 150gram of carbs a day and lost weight and got your a1c down. I am type 2 diabetic and when I go over 50 in a day my numbers shoot up . I don't do keto or anything but when I was 227 pounds they threaten to put me on insulin and said I had to cut my carbs down to no more than 60 a day. Maybe a height weight thing. But I did and now 2 years later I have lost 98 pounds and my a1c is 5.8 and I eat about 45-50 grams a day.

I can say for a fact that this effect is largely mitigated my water intake. Ketones are released in the body through, sweat, breath and urine. Out of the three ketones that are produced from fat break down one is acetone (yes nail polish remover, surprisingly chemically stable in the body). It's the acetone that is the cause of the smell on ones breath. So while it may never completely disappear, water intake does greatly mitigate it.
Just like when you urinate... If the colour of said urination is dark yellowish and worse shades of yellow orange. You are clearly not drinking anywhere near enough water. The the lighter your pee, the less concentrations of ketones, and also the less acetone in your breath. If hydrated enough, I would suggest smelling like a trash can on a hot day with a dead squirrel in it, is an extreme embellishment. That said, a lot of people simply don't drink enough water,

Hydration is so important. better hydration helps you sweat and clean out impurities from the body. I personally find water helps rev up my metabolism. I drink almost 2 gallons a day.0 -

I’m not keto - and the colorful description comes from a discussion among the people in my circle of dating others who were doing keto. One guy said he was convinced his wife had a rotten tooth until the dentist said she didn’t! I know it’s supposedly acetone, but having smelled a lot of polish remover and a variety of keto breath, I feel like the scientific community is missing something about this. It smells like rotting meat, not like chemicals.
Good to know that water helps. But since many people are unaware of their own breath it’s definitely something to be aware of and maybe check with others.1 -
