Running

Options
Hi! I’m considering taking up running on my treadmill. I did 1.6 miles tonight but it was a combination of brisk walk/jog. Highest was 4mph. Any advice for a beginner runner?

I think the combination of walking/running is smart to start. When I first started running I used the couch 2 5k app and then quickly progresses to other apps. Good luck!!!

Have you tried couch 2 5k? I found that very helpful. I think it teaches you to slow down and pace yourself. Go slower than you think you need to and make sure you increase speed and distance gradually.

Another recommendation for couch to 5k. Keep the running portions slow. You should be able to speak whole sentences while you run. Your pace will pick up with time, don't push it now.

    C25K!

I used the Zen Labs app

One piece of advice: Take your time getting through the workouts. Stick with one as long as it takes. If one is too hard, back up. Let your body get used to it. Cross train on cycling or walking.

It's even OK if you NEVER reach a running pace for the full 5K. In this case, consider

    It's all good!

I just dropped in to say YES to all of the above advice. It's all really sensible. I love running, and I started using couch to 5k
