Calories burned walking 10,000 steps

Hi there,
New to the forum. Have been using myfitness pal for 3 weeks and seen a good loss.
I have a query re the calculations for walking 10,000 steps. I am about 160lbs and it says it’s about 80 calories burned. I power walk them so I’m convinced I’m burning more than that. Looking online it seems like it should be more like 500 calories? Can anyone tell me why it’s so low on here? I eat my exercise calories and don’t want to be in deficit!
Thanks so much x

I will put it at about 430 calories give or take. Im guessing at a weight of 150lbs. If you weigh more, than it's higher, and less than that lower.

If you know your stride length then you can convert 10k steps > miles. Given the distance and time you can then calculate the calorie burn for walking.
Based on my stats, and an average of 2000 steps per mile, 10k steps @ 3.5 mph = 387 net calories (net because that doesn't include the calories I would have burned just sitting on the couch)1 -
Also, don't forget there is a certain amount of steps/activity already included in your activity level setting. So if you're getting 80 calories from a synced step tracker for 10000 steps, it doesn't mean that MFP thinks you burned 80 calories during those 10k steps: it means MFP thinks you've burned 80 calories above your selected activity level.6

Thank you all. So helpful0

What is giving your step count?
Depending on device, there may be a better way than just telling MFP app to use that as a step source, which requires MFP to then do it's own very rough math since it has no idea of distance which is what really matters in calculation with your weight.1 -

What's "It"? Do you have a device synched? If so, the 80 calories isn't specifically for 10K steps...when you sync a device, it reconciles your activity level selected on MFP to your actual per device...you aren't given additional calories for any specific one thing.2 -
It sounds like you set your activity level to active, so the program assumes that most of those steps are part of your daily activity. How many steps do you take on days that you don't go for a brisk walk? That is what you use to set your activity level.2
