Ready to get back on track

It’s been a crazy year with this Pandemic, but not only has that held me back from taking good care of myself, but I also lost my job/my purpose/my self-worth and my Mom got sick with Cancer.

I’ve gained 25 lbs over the last year or so and I really want to get back to being healthy again.

Any tips for getting back on track or building confidence with tracking again?

I know, you’re probably thinking, “Just do it!” Lol but Sometimes you need a little more support and motivation. I’m at my highest I have ever been at 5’4 180lbs 😂 and I’m scared if I don’t do something drastic, it will keep going up ...

I know I need to stop my snacking and stress eating... as well as ordering in on the weekends! It’s tough when the only highlights of the week are going to the grocery store 😂 Ready for this Pandemic to be over!! I miss the gym classes and seeing people without masks! Winter in NY is depressing. But no more excuses... I’m ready to make a change.

Who’s with me?

    I'm with you.

Sounds like you already know what must be done. You're right; if you've been gaining weight, if you keep doing exactly what you've been doing, you'll keep gaining until you are at the maintenance weight for the amount you're eating. You've sure had a run of cruddy stuff, so it's understandable to use food as comfort. I do that. I try not to do it too often, but ya know....

No excuses? That's awesome. The next step, and you said it already, is just get started. Step one is just to be aware and track what you're eating, then after you get a handle on what's passing your lips, you can strategize how to make sure all the things going in will support what you want.

Having folks be on your side is awesome, but YOU are the only one who can make the changes you want to make.

I will add this: I'm in a very supportive group called Lose One Pound a Day and Keep it Off. Consider joining us. Go over and visit, and then click the JOIN button:

I gradually snuck up to my highest weight ever in Jan, over 300 lbs.

My approach was to opt for a gradual method, with emphasis on logging every meal/snack.
    • First week I entered .5 lbs loss/week and just focused on logging my behavior without really caring if I was over or under the goal.
    • Then I spent a month at 1 lbs loss/week, which still gave me 2300 calories to work with.
This gradual approach allowed me to slowly introduce better choices in my diet. I didn't have to drop my fast food habit cold turkey, though it is now a rare/calculated treat.
