Is it possible to gain 7 pounds in a week? I literally have been working out like crazy and I'm up almost 7 pounds. I recently started working out super hard the about the past couple of weeks adding alot of resistance training to my workouts.

    Only if you ate about 24,500 calories above maintenance. Very easy to add multiple pounds of water retention . . . related to muscle repair, say.

    Seconding Ann. If you didn't black out and eat thirty sticks of butter last night, you didn't gain 7 lbs of fat. (edit to add: and even if you did do that it wouldn't be showing up as body fat yet.) It's probably water, most likely related to your recent increase in exercise activity.

    Thanks guys I literally have not been over eating. I've been consuming about 2000 calories a day granted I've had a couple high sodium days in a row, but I'm still maintaining my calories around 2000 a day.

    Yeah, it's definitely water. Stay hydrated (the only way your body will let that water go is if you give it more), keep at it, you'll see a whoosh soon.

    Yes...it's possible to gain seven pounds of water in a week. I gain about 10 Lbs of water just getting off an airplane after traveling.

    I apparently lost about 4.5 pounds in a matter of 3 days...as much as I'd like to be excited about that, I know it's mostly water weight.

    However, I can understand how seeing a 7 pound jump would be discouraging, given that it sounds like you're doing everything right. But, starting new workout routines (especially strength training) is a good way to increase water retention.

    Absolutely!
    1lb a day is quite normal for me when I'm away on holiday/vacation. (Remember that luxury pre-COVID!!??)
    Combination of sun, more and saltier food in my system, more alcohol, flying, less exercise.

    But it's not 7lbs of fat.
    Which is reflected in how quickly most of that gain goes away just from getting back in my usual routine.

    I can also gain many (temporary) pounds from a Chinese meal, gain despite a massive calorie deficit due to extreme cycling events.
    Keep tracking your weight and you will find these spikes upwards unreleated to calorie balance are matched by times when your weight drops quicker than it "should". Keep a long view and shrug off short term fluctuations - they don't stop when you are maintaining at goal weight.

    Yeep, I can easily gain 7 pounds of water in just one day. For whatever reason, Wednesday was a hold water day. 3-4 liters in and almost none out. Couldn't put my Engadgment ring on my right hand. Thursday... WOOOOOooooSH! Ring slips right on with no fuss.

    Lol, after bodybuilding competitions and the obligatory binge meal after the show, it wasn't uncommon for me to weight 10-12lbs heavier after a day! Body sucked up all that water that was depelted from my cells.

    You increased your resistance which stimulates not only glycogen storage (which requires water to store it) but muscle repair as well. It should go back down after a couple of weeks when your body starts getting use to the intensity on a daily basis.
