Health scare, time to change.

On 1/28/21 I was 44yrs old, 5'10", 284lbs BP avg 130/80ish Take a lot of medications for mostly heart issues.
Ok got that out of the way, my cardiologist sent me to get full bloodwork panel. Got a call on 1/29/21 saying I immediately need to see my PCP or go to the ER. Said blood glucose was at 455 and sodium was 113. (and yes I fasted for 12 hrs before the test)
Could not get into see my Dr. till the next week so I went to the ER. My glucose was at 419. They put me on some saline bags and gave me a dose of Metformin.
After that I did a total 180 on my diet, researched basic diabetic meals looked at all options cause something had to change.
Settled on the Keto plan cause it seems to fit all my needs. Got rid of every carb and sugar in my place (which hurt cause a few days ago I went grocery shopping) Donated to a local food bank. Yeah there was a trunk load of "crap"
After a few trials of what tastes good (I work as a chef so that helps) Got into a rhythm of meal planing.
So after seeing VERY postive results in under a month, my glucose is avg anywhere from 90-110 and I now weigh 258 this morning. I decided to go all in, counting macros, OMAD on weekends.
Have blood test tomorrow so.. :|

I can sort of relate ... I had a health scare when I was admitted to the hospital in 2019 with the flu/pneumonia ....I was in there for 9 days ..I was also diagnosed to type 2 diabetes ...sent home with a bunch of pills ...insulin...victoza ...metformin etc . Fast forward to today ... I am off all diabetes meds ...I am now considered pre-diabetic ... I am also on Keto/low carb and I have lost 53lbs :) Congrats you for doing a 180 and getting things under controlled :)

TY, been a huge lifestyle change all of the sudden. But its not bad... yeah it kinda sucks, I miss pasta lol. I love to cook(partly how I got in the condidtion I am in) learning a different way of cooking is kinda cool. Mostly I am learning a LOT about carbs/sugar/fats/fasting/etc etc.
Adjusting and tweaking how and when I eat every day it seems.
Just the other day I learned about Chaffles...after a month of no bread I was almost in tears lol.

Needing to replace 98% of my pantry (seriously that is how much was high carb/sugar items, Had to do a restock. Slowly building up keto staples like low/no carb flour, sugar sub, and things like that. So have not had the ingredients yet to play with keto bread making. Also learning different things like when you buy almond flour buy super fine as opposed to what I first got, was more like grits than flour. lol

Just a side note, the guy from Serious Keto sounds exactly like Dick Clark.
