Too much, too quick - be careful!

My wife and I have started eating healthy and low carb. I took a hike today and instead my my typical prehike beaky of a chai and bagel sandwich, I just had a protean smoothie. I got to the summit of the hike and felt pretty good. I ate an apple for snack. But by the end of the hike I believe my blood sugar had crashed. I felt safe to drive but I came straight home, eat some lentils and fruit and slept for about an hour. Even though I am overweight now, I hike a lot. I haven’t had this lethargy since decades ago when I trained for trail running races.

Learn from my mistake and consider your eating in terms of not just losing weight, but what activities you are planning.

I know the feeling well! Just my own experience... I’m prone to episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and always carry a few hard candies (like Werthers) with me when I go for hikes or runs just in case, they’ve saved me quite a few times! Also, I tried keto (practically no carb diet) a few years ago out of curiosity (not to lose weight) and my energy tanked for the whole 6 months I stuck to it. I was still able to maintain my activity level but felt like I was moving through molasses all the time. I stopped the keto and immediately felt normal and energetic again, guess I just need my carbs :#

It's weird how different our bodies react to diets. I feel great on keto! Even fasted workouts, but I do bring snacks on anything half a day or longer.
