Lockdown gain

Sadly I have gained 50 lbs during the various UK lockdowns for COVID. My fault, of course, but restricted ability to go far, feeling low due to lack of contact with friends and family, these things have not helped. I’m feeling motivated to lose the weight now and finding lots of inspiration here.

That's great! If you read around a bit here, some folks have found it easy to gain because of stress or limited activity. Others have looked at it as a period of reduced temptation from restaurants or social occasions, and found ways to be active at home (or adapt eating to a reduced activity level), using the resulting control over their body weight/fitness as a positive counter to the less-controllable parts of pandemic stress. That shift of perspective seems to be very powerful, for those who can harness it. Best wishes!

P.S. Personally, I've continued an intentionally ultra-slow loss of some vanity pounds that I started before the pandemic, and found the reduced social-eating temptations to make it easier. Last March, around 133 pounds; now around 125 pounds. Almost completely painless process!

I gained a little, too, but got with it, got serious, and it’s gone. It was easier, because with restaurants closed, I’ve been cooking a lot, and I just naturally tend to cook lower calorie than eating out.
Best of luck. I know you can do it.

Covid helped me as well. Trying to avoid cabin fever got me to go outside for walks, which turned into more walks and longer walks. Lockdown meant greatly reduced eating out. Just make little changes to get good habits back.

Yeah I gained about 30 lbs during the first lockdown in 2020 - but I’ve lost 20 of it already since November. It was tough getting motivated but once you make the decision (and now that you have) you are on your way. Good luck!
