Starting over again but this time Vegan!

Today is my first time in a long time using myfitnesspal. I have been trying to go vegan for the last year. I have been pretty consistent with it now but I noticed I have not had a lot of weight loss. Weight loss has been very hard for me. I always struggle to drop the weight. I also started walking a lot more but have not been counting my calories. So my goal is to log on here for a month and be very transparent about my weight loss journey. I am also going to weigh myself tomorrow and I haven't done that in over a year. Lol numbers scare me. When I get on the scale and it hasn't moved it discourages me. This month I am facing my fear and weighing myself weekly. My goal is to keep doing this until I hit my weight loss goal and maintain it for a while. I am happy to be here. I am ready to work hard and encourage my fellow fitness pal.

If you're going vegan specifically for weight loss, remember that you still need to create a calorie deficit - that's the only way weight loss happens. It's possible to gain weight eating 100% vegan, because it comes down to calories in < calories out. Just keep that in mind and be sure you're logging honestly and accurately and staying within your allotted calorie budget.2

Long- time "almost" vegetarian, 3 year herbivore:
For a calorie deficit, watch those carbs (rice, pasta, potatoes)
For health and feeling full, load up on produce (I eat some massive combo of onion, tomato, napa cabbage, mushrooms, zuchinni & eggplant almost every day),
Love your proteins! Beans, legumes, hummus, tofu & other soy products, & seitan :-)
And consider a B-12 supplement.3 -
Veganism doesn't really have anything to do with weight loss. Vegans come in all shapes and sizes. It's all going to come down how many calories you're eating in relation to what your body needs. Eat less than you need and you'll lose weight. Eat what you need and you'll maintain your weight. Eat more than you need and you'll gain weight.
I lost over 40 pounds as a vegan and have been maintaining that weight loss since 2015, but that is based on consistently meeting my calorie goals.2 -
Lots of great advice here already. I've been mostly vegan (always vegetarian) for 30+ years, and in that time, I've been both a slim veg*n and a chubby veg*n. I'm currently maintaining a 25lb loss and concentrating on a whole foods plant based diet, but on occasion I go off the rails with eggs or ice cream or candy, which is why I'm still here! So yes, even vegans do well to log calories if they want to lose weight. Yes, to the B-12 supplement, too! Consider logging for health-enhancing micro-nutrients like calcium, iron, vitamin A, etc--MFP can be a great learning tool!

Just curious, do you mean vegan or plant based because the two mean different things? From my understanding, veganism is more of a lifestyle and plant based is a type of diet only. No matter what it still comes down to counting calories in some form. Either way, good luck!0
