Hello!

Hiya I am Clare, I am 46 next month and I want to lose a stone as I can't fit into some of my clothes!

My biggest issue is I am autistic and have a huge number of food aversions due to sensory issues. Most diets seem to consist of the things I won't eat which makes it hard. The taste, texture, smell and even appearance can put me off.

    Hi, Clare. Welcome to MFP.

The wonderful thing about MFP is it’s not a “diet”. It’s simply a change of habits.

You don’t have to punish yourself at all.

You can still eat foods you like, probably just not as much of them.

For example, someone posted yesterday that they got into a big bag of M&Ms, but managed to skip lunch and have a lighter dinner. As that user said, it wasn’t easy but they managed to stay at goal. And they also said they probably wouldn’t do that again, lol.

As long as you weigh and log them, and stay at or slightly over or under your calorie goal, you will lose weight.

So there is no need at all to give up foods that you do enjoy the texture, smell and taste.

One of the hallmarks of my autistic friends is that habits are so deeply ingrained. How do you think is the best way to change your habits and create new ones?

Is there any way we can help you out as you begin and try to change habits?

Much success to you, sweetie. 😘
