Eating More Fruit

Is there anyone here that didn't really like fruit, but when you started eating more, you learned to love it? I love bananas already, but don't really care for apples, grapes, oranges, etc. Don't get me wrong, I will eat it, but if given the opportunity to eat fruit or something like some Triscuits and cheese, I would take the Triscuits and cheese.

I don’t love fruit. If I want a healthy snack, I’d much rather grab some cut up veggies than fruit. But when I actually eat fruit I do enjoy it, it’s just it is never appealing to me for some reason if that makes sense. So I try to make myself eat one piece of fruit a day, usually in the evenings. I find cut up fruit much easier to eat for some reason.

I'm picky about fruit. In the summer, I will happily eat fresh berries and peaches, and in the fall I love apples, but at other times through the year when it's not in season the regular grocery store selection seems bland to me. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, though, so I'm not eating other things like cake, cookies, or candy on a regular basis.

I do really love the taste of lemon and lime, but since I'm not eating the fruit by itself, I don't really count that. Most of the produce I consume are vegetables. I have grown to appreciate a lot more vegetables that I didn't like growing up. I do like some of the sweeter vegetables too - bell peppers, carrots, beets, sugar snap peas. Roasting really brings out the sweetness in many of them.

I think some of it is growing older. When I was a kid I ate a lot more fruit and sweets generally, and my children could probably consume their weight in fruit every day. But if I'm hungry now, I'm not very likely to think of fruit first, and if I do have it I'm going to pair it with something else that's a bit more savory.
