Hello there. I decided to go here since with the pandemic, I am mostly at home. Working from home, so I don't go out much. I do have my home gym. Recently I also bought a treadmill online. I decided to go here since I would want to meet others who have the same goals that I have. I decided to double down on my health and fitness goals when I tried on my jeans and realized they're not just tight, but they don't fit anymore. my size 28 jeans don't fit, having gained back to 36 at the waist. In just a year of being at home I gained all that back. Something has to be done, which is why I also bought a treadmill. I do have a barbell, adjustable bench, dumbbells and kettlebells. I have been working out since 1991 and I am 51 now. Back in 2017 I decided that I have to change my fitness goals and focus more on getting lean instead of bulking up since I have to be realistic: I'm not going to be a pro bodybuilder and gaining more mass isn't anymore for me at my age.

    Hi @Milliardo5 welcome to MFP!

There are many of us here in our 50’s and above, and many do weights, including me.

Like you, I’m never going to be a competitive lifter or bodybuilder, but I enjoy the process and like the results.

If it’s something you enjoy, that’s the most important thing. It’s easier to stick with things we like, right? I am so freaking bored on a treadmill I literally count the seconds, but an hour doing weights or machines passes pretty quick. I love mat classes. And hour long class seems like it’s over in ten minutes!

Have a look around the site. Have you entered your height weight and goal and come up with your plan yet?

Holler if you need help. We all started here as a wobbling jelly of utter confusion.

    Welcome!

Staying fit is a great idea. It improves quality of life. It's great to find something that you enjoy doing. As far as losing inches and weight, you win that fight in the kitchen, not the gym.

What specific goals have you set? Getting lean is a good start, but it's not very specific. Once you get that long term goal, what short term goals are you setting along the way, and what will you do to make sure you succeed?

Well, goal that I have right now is to get down to 130 lbs, or even maybe 125 lbs. Right now I'm at 140 lbs. Long term is to maintain from about 125-1128 lbs. One concern for me is how to lose that weight without losing much muscle mass. Being natural can be hard but I would rather do it naturally than take any PED. The impact on health by PEDs outweigh trying to look good. Of course, even if I could probably not be a pro bodybuilder, having a body like Frank Zane is still something of an ideal.
