New England anyone?

Hi,
First post, I'm from North Central MA, or South Central New England. Looking to lose 100 pounds, get better control of my blood sugars and looking to at least not be the primary cause of not getting to my own old age. I am 42. Here is my recent story:
2 weeks ago I woke up with a fever and had no desire to eat for once. No energy for 2 days kept me from even going to the store for my usual Coffee and loads of diet soda. I knew the headache was caffeine withdrawn, but for once I overcame it. i know i am insulin resistant and had been meaning to quit my 100+ ounces of daily diet soda intake for some time, so this was just a catalyst that got things going. I finished out the work week (barely) knowing I would have the next week off (this past week just ending today). I took the week to really focus on myself diet wise. My sugars had been regularly in the mid to high 200s for years (if not higher) with collectively 400 units of three types of insulin daily when I actually take as rxed.
Also, I have an had a stubborn infection in my big toe. Not good if you are diabetic, and while it was not getting worse, it wasn't getting better either. I know those complications are lurking and I'm getting close to life altering damage if I keep this up.
So I started eating sensibly about 1 week ago. I started poking my finger 2 x day as I am supposed to to measure those damn blood sugars every day. I have come down from sugars over 300 to 66 this evening (which was actually a bit too low for once) even after eliminating my non long acting insulin. I found this site on Friday, one day after I decided I needed to get both exercise and diet in the mix. I have been walking 5k a day in about an hour. My feet are sore, but I am loving how I am starting to feel, even if I haven't lost pounds yet, the sugars have dropped so fast and I just already feel better. The toe is much better (though not completely so) too.
I return to work tomorrow with serious trepidation. I am planning to exercise in am, but that means 5:00 AM. Work is always stressful (I lead an effort to end single adult homelessness in a mid sized city including oversight of a homeless shelter and about 350 units of housing), and it has been my excuse for stress eating for years. I need some friends to keep me on target. I also am thinking of walking into a gym for the first time in my life because all I read tells me I need to add resistance training to make this work out as I wish. I need some friends to help me get over myself there too and just go through those doors.
I don't care if you are local, but some folks nearby would be welcome, along with any further away who have been, or are going on this journey too.
Thanks

Congratulations on taking back your life! I am not technically in New England as I'm in upstate New York but not all that far away either.
Is it possible to take a 10-15 minute walk to get away from the office stress each day? I've found on days I can sneak out for just 10 minutes my attitude and stress levels even out. I'm working to fend off diabetes (family has adult onset) by a healthy diet and exercise in hopes I will never have issues. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.0
