Confused with pants sizes. Nothing fits me properly.

I've been trying on different sizes, but none seem to fit properly. They always fit around the waist, but not the hips. My waist measures at 25 inches and hips/butt measure at just about 38. Does anyone know what size this is? I've been struggling with finding the right pants for a while. Thanks to anyone who answers.

You may just have to buy pants that fit in the hip/butt area and have the waist tailored to fit.

Good luck! I wear a size 0 or 1 (24.5 inch waist and 36 inch BUTT!), but I always have the problem of:

Pants fit in waist/butt but are WAY too short.
Pants are correct length but require major beltage to keep up.
Pants fit in butt/length but are huge in waist.

Takes me numerous stores and places to find correct fitting pants. When I do I buy like 4 pairs. :P

This. But a 38" hip is about 6 in US sizes.

You may just be in between sizes for now. Just buy a few stretchy things that fit well enough, and try again in a couple of weeks.

Some brands apparently make a "curvy fit" option that's narrower in the waist than the thighs. I'm still looking for these mythical pants.
  • Yeah I have hips that are a little smaller if I am measuring right but I am never sure about that but I carry all my weight in my butt so finding jeans that fit can be tough. You might want to try Woman's size 0's they account for curves! I buy women's size 0 petite or sometimes a 2. At places they go my waist size I am a 25 short or petite. It's different everywhere. But I do find women's jeans are better because 0's in the juniors section are for girls that haven't really developed much in terms of hips/a butt

I am not extremely thin at all I just carry my weight in my legs and butt and have a small waist and it sounds like you're similar plus with vanity sizing you kinda never know

I have pants problems too. Thick muscular (and beautiful feminine) thighs and backside, and littler waist in comparison.

Do some trying on research by going to stores and asking sales associates what their best fit is for you, and tell them the problems you normally have.

    My best fits:

Levi's Curve ID: size 6 with bold curve
Express: Editor cut, flare, size 6

LITERALLY no other pants will fit me without ridiculous gapping or funny crotch situations. Gotta try it out.

Eddie Bauer makes a curvy fit as well as a slightly curvy fit.
  • Sometimes the rise on a pant will make a difference. But agree, a seamstress/tailor can be a girl's best friend :)

They sell a curvy fit at Banana Republic. I have a 23 inch waist and 34 inch hips/booty, so I relate to a lot of the ladies posting in this thread. Banana Republic runs a little bigger, so I wear a 00 there, but they don't run as big as some other places like Old Navy (those stores are both owned by the same company). I often get the waist tailored. Also, if you buy jeans with a little stretch in them that helps also.

Have you tried Express? Their jeans/pants are super expensive, but they fit perfectly for me. I don't have quite as small of a waist as you though!

Join the club I guess? I have a 28 in+ waist and ~38 in. hips. Junior 7's and 9's are too small and misses 4's are baggy. Everything comes up too high and has over 6" of fabric at the end of each leg. I buy petite/short pants and then have them hemmed. I still have roomy crotch, tight thighs, and gapping waistbands though. I frequently complain about not being "person shaped". Basically just keep trying stuff on, almost every pair of pants will be different.

New York and Company actually makes these and they fit really well! :D

Very few people can buy clothes straight off the rack and have a perfect fit. Many can make do with the fit they get but some always need alterations. Always buy to fit the biggest part of you, and alter the rest.

Target now sells the cury fit too. I stock them on a nightly basis on our jean wall. I'm having that problem too right now. Hoping I'm just between sizes. Good luck!
  • Macy's has "curvy" fit jeans.

The Loft "Julie" pants are supposed to be for a curvy fit, "Our curvy fit, fits narrow at the waistband with a slightly curved shape at hips." I have no personal experience with them, however. I am still plus size but have much larger hips than waist. I have good luck at Dress Barn, especially with their pants that have a button waist. Not sure if their misses size pants are similar or not.

Me too! I have the same problem….too big on the waist but a little snug on the hips/butt….keep trying different pants…the higher end clothing companies are a little more generous through the hips.

It's a good thing he doesn't get on this website, but this problem actually describes my husband and what he calls his "big ol' booty." If he were to buy pants in a 34 waist which would perfectly fit his waist, they would squeeze the daylights out of his rear end. He actually wears 38 pants and draws them in with a belt on the waist.

Clothing manufacturers don't seem to realize that humans come in all sorts of different shapes, not just the same shape only slightly bigger or smaller than other people!
