Arthritic Knees

Well, after nearly 2 years of knee issues, been to see the specialist today and have had it confirmed that I have arthritis in both knees with my right knee particularly bad :frown:
So, at least I know I am not a hypochondriac, just been told it's old age even though I am only 36!!. Just gotta keep up the exercise and keep losing the weight. I also need to wear shoes with a 1 inch heel so 'have' to go shopping for new shoes.....there is a silver lining to my crappy news!!
I know swimming is a good exercise but wondered if there were any other exercises that some of you have found particularly helpful?

I, too, have arthritis in both knees. I have a bike but, can only ride it for about an hour with long spaces of days in between. My knees just cannot take the "up and down" motion of the pedels, even while wearing braces on both knees. I love to walk and it seems to be the only exercise I can both do AND afford. I bought one of the Leslie Sansone DVDs because someone on here recommended them. I now own three and swear by them. They are more like low impact aerobics and I work up one heck of a sweat with them. The best thing of all is my knees tolerate them just fine. Never any pain or swelling after the workout and very easy to modify if my knees are painful going into the workout. The DVDs are available just about anywhere but, I find them the least expensive on Amazon.0

My wife has autoimmune arthritis in both knees. She does a deep water aerobics class every day and spends an hour on a seated elliptical machine each day. It really helps her a lot.0

I have osteoarthritis in both knees and an assortment of other physical ailments. I do walk 3-6 miles a day depending on my pain. I also usea few different strength training videos at home . I do find increased pain after , but ice and or heat usually helps. I am unable to take NSAIDS due to being aggressively anticoagulated. I try not to take pain meds, but there are days I absolutely have to. I just jeep trucking along knowing that the more weight I lose the better my knees will be. I am ready for a new pair of shoes, because I wear mine out pretty fast.0
