Hi, and welcome to MFP, to both of you!

Congratulations on your progress so far: That's excellent.

Good news: You don't have to have some kind of fancy, trendy, strict diet plan, unless you want to. Just eating foods you enjoy, and find filling, that add up to the right number of calories, is enough to achieve weight loss success. Of course it's a good plan - for health reasons - to get overall good nutrition, too, but that can be done with normal foods. It doesn't require special diet foods or superfoods, or whatever.

Even with the calories, any calorie intake less than the number it would take to maintain your current weight, is going to yield weight loss, with time. Of course, a bigger cut leads to faster weight loss, but faster isn't necessarily better: Losing any meaningful amount of weight is a process of weeks, months, possibly even years if a person has a really large number to lose. In that setting, slow but steady progress can be a faster route to goal weight than an extreme diet that leads to fits and starts, fast loss, a sense of deprivation leading to overeating, and that sort of interrupted thing.

I started weight loss just over the line into class 1 obesity (183 pounds at 5'5") and found MFP super helpful, losing 50+ pounds down to a healthy weight, where I've been for 5 years since.

Wishing both of you, Pat and Kris, great success!
