Best diet for hypothyroidism?
I see a nutritionist but don't think it's working she has everyone on the same plan not targeting the problem. Thank you

If your thyroid levels are low you should be discussing it with your GP or an endocrinologist.3

You don’t need a special diet. You just need to be properly medicated and have your levels in a proper range. Unlike many other conditions, thyroid diseases can’t be controlled or reversed by diet, so please don’t try.5

If you haven't read it, I highly recommend this thread:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10767046/hypothyroidism-and-weight-management
It was written by a (former?) MFP-er, scientist in the hypothyroidism field, who is himself hypothyroid, and who lost weight with MFP.
Me, I'm pretty severely hypothyroid (have been for 20+ years), but properly medicated. I lost weight with calorie counting, adjusting my eating to hit calorie goal and find satiation/good nutrition using foods I enjoy eating, back in 2015-16, and have maintained at a healthy weight since. I didn't do any special diet because of my thyroid condition, in fact ate pretty much the same foods I'd been eating while obese, just in different portion sizes, proportions, frequencies. (I was already a reasonably healthy eater, nutritionally, while obese - just too many calories.) I also didn't materially change my exercise routine. (I was already quite active, while obese - just out-ate that, which was easy. 😉)
Best wishes!1 -
I don't know that there are any special diets you would need to follow specific to hypothyrodism if it is manged through medication. I've been on Levothyroxin for at least 12 years, and just had to monitor how much I was eating related to my output in order to lose weight. I generally make better-for-me choices in regards to nutrition, but that's for my overall health, not just hypothyroidism.1

I started on thyroxine quite abruptly in 2016 following surgery to remove half my thyroid due to a tumour.
Neither my GP nor my specialist nor my surgeon said anything about changing my diet so I didn't do so.
Was already calorie counting with MFP and just continued same foods at same calorie allowance and nothing changed.
( of course having regular blood tests to check my medication level)3 -
Ok just making sure I will have my thryoid removed so I was just trying to do everything I can possible to make sure I'm good I am on levothyroxine now but will have high dose due to not having a thyroid5
