Trying to get healthy

Hi.I am a retired nurse. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I lost 20# last year, then gained it right back. I broke my foot in April, then started having gallbladder problems, and decided it is time to get healthier. 2 gallbladder attacks will make you to decide to eat better. So after cutting out a lot of fat in my diet, and realizing my knees are killing me, I have to lose weight or I will have to have knee replacements. I turned to this website. My nurse practitioner mentioned it, and I have used it before. I am only a week into my journey, but this website is really helping me. Measuring my food, keeping a food and exercise diary is very motivating. I am 66, and I encourage all of you younger folks to get the weight off and get healthy before you get my age. Your joints will thank you. I always thought I was relatively healthy---my cholesterol is normal, I am not on blood pressure medication and I am not diabetic, have no heart problems---but, excess weight, even if you are healthy, does affect your knees. After only a couple of weeks of my second gallbladder attack, I feel so much better. The indigestion from overeating and eating the wrong foods is gone. I want to lose 30 more pounds, not just the 20 I lost last year. Hopefully with tracking my eating and exercising, I will be able to get a lot healthier. I am tired of not feeling as good as I should.

I am younger and I can only agree. Both my parents are obese and overall very healthy despite it, genes which I've inherited.
But mobility is certainly something I see them having more and more issues with. Not necessarily the knees yet specifically, but it's obvious their weight is 'weighing them down' when they could feel so much better weighing less. I mean, I can feel it myself how much easier it is to move with 60lbs less on my frame!

I wish you all the best!
