Really don't know what to say. I'm 63, currently weigh 382 lbs.10 years ago I lost 100 lbs using an app on my old cell phone, and managed to keep all but 42 lbs off, can't say I had anything do with it.
A short history:
I had a normal middle class upbringing, but my parents were products of the Great Depression, so you were expected to 'clean your plate or else'. I was always on the chunky side.
In my 20s I weighed 165 and worked as a merchant seaman doing very strenuous work an average of 10 hours a day 7 days a week. I was probably eating 4-5000 calories a day and had trouble keeping weight on.
My next job wasn't as strenuous but I was still eating the same gained about 45 lbs.
After that I was traveling 45 weeks a year, lots of take out, and restaurants. weight 285.
Then I took a stressful management job lots of travel, meetings and restaurants 70 - 80 hours a week, weight 350
After that, I started my own business, high stress 80 - 100+ hours a week. Lots of take-out, soda, snacks, sleeping in the office. Weight 440 lbs
Present 382 lbs
I'm semi-retired now giving me some time to think:
My guess is 'clean your plate' started the ball rolling, when I started traveling all the fast food & restaurants large portions, eating just before bed, contributed. When I started the business I became a stress / boredom eater as well. Most of my meals were fast food or take-out at my desk.
I'm a believer in the calories in less than calories out school, but I disagree that weight loss is just about one thing, You have to address all the issues, and separate the emotional from the physical and balance your calories.
I guess I ran long, didn't know I had that much to say. Thanks
