It's going to be pretty individual, probably, but likely to involve some form of timing or composition of eating. Timing: What time you eat, how many times, which meals/snacks are biggest, that sort of thing. Composition: More protein, or more fats, or more fiber, or more whole foods, more veggies/fruits maybe even specific foods - those are common things to try.
Many of us need to experiment, find what works best for us. (Some people will tell you "Just do X" because X worked for them. Might work for you, might not.)
For me, what helped was a solid breakfast with a good bit of protein, then adequate protein through the day, with at least one meal (usually my evening meal) that included plenty of nice veggies/fruits to create volume. Sweets cravings in the evenings dropped for me when I started routinely including more fruit in my day. That "formula" probably wouldn't be exactly what you need to do, but I'm confident you can experiment and find you personal good strategy.
Note that evening cravings can also be about fatigue, boredom or habit.
Fatigue, because the body seeks energy as one gets more tired, so improved sleep or stress management techniques might help. (The latter because stress is fatiguing, of course.)
If boredom or habit are part of the problem, then there's overlap in potential remedies: Consider resuming an engaging old hobby or starting a fun new one. Bonus points for hobbies that either require clean hands (like sketching, needlework, playing a musical instrument, etc.) or create dirty hands (painting, carpentry, gardening, etc.): Those are less compatible with snacking!
Just a few thoughts. Best wishes!0 -
Definitely individual. My successful strategy is two fold. Save enough calories to eat an evening snack ...and going to bed. Seriously, I start getting a desire to snack, I just go to bed with a book. I usually sleep pretty fast but even if I don't I have no eating in bed association and I don't want to get up to eat the have to brush my teeth and go back to bed. I just stay there until I do fall asleep.1
