140lb lost. Totally lost the will to keep calorie counting

I've lost 140 pounds, and I'm loving that, but I can't seem to get myself going to lose the last 30 pounds or so. This year I've lost nothing. I have made some fitness goals, and am doing well there, I've been cycling and hiking and doing strong lifts, but weight wise, and eating a good diet wise, I've totally fallen off the wagon. I start the day with great intentions and end it with chocolate and cake. This has lead to some pounds regained. Which I don't want.
Tell me what worked to get you back on track. I'm so close to my goal, I can taste it.
And it doesn't taste like cookies.

I get it. I have days when a walk through the snack aisle at the grocery store is sheer torment, resulting in head shakes and thoughts of,”man, just once…..”
It boils down to being all about food. All the leggings (my own weight loss reward) in the world can’t replace food.
Why not consider a diet break and eat at maintenance for a while?
Or treat yourself to some new and unusual food to change things up?
I made some ginger pickled jicama that was amazing and you basically mix and forget.
I’m sitting here eating a bowl of homemade tikka masala marinated paneer cheese and bell peppers, heated and dumped on a bag of salad greens. Never made cheese or tried this before but it’s delicious and refreshing and actually gives me something to look forward to again in the near future. The recipe is totally bastardized for ease of prep.
The paneer was soooo easy to make using a yogurt strainer, almond milk bag and tofu press I already had, and it beats the hell out of tofu. I can’t wait to experiment with it, and want to try homemade cottage cheese next.
Im going to pay a visit to a local international market to see what I can see.
I’m hoping to find some cooking classes near me to bump up my cooking skills. I’m really digging some pickled turnips I had the other day and heard rumors of a fermentation class.
Freshen up so you don’t feel like you’re in a rut?0 -
To add, every time I feel like weakening, I enjoy a day off, but reemind myself,”there ain’t no way I’m going through this again”.
Remember “old” me and why I did this (avoiding medication, seeing loved ones die-painful, unhappy, slow deaths from diabetes) sobers me into behaving again.
Don’t go there. Think how far you’ve come. At least stay at that point. The last thirty, they’ll wait til you’re reinvigorated.3 -
Aw, I hate to see you slip back. You've done so well. I agree with @springlering62 , take a break and eat at maintenance for as long as it takes. I, myself, have an eternal 25 lbs to lose. Log for a short while to make sure you're maintaining and then just weigh once a week. Give yourself a range that you won't go beyond. Enjoy life. Good luck. And maybe check out the maintaining threads to get some tips.3

Some unrelated thoughts.
Do you keep a food diary? What do you do when you go over your target? Keep your diary no matter what. It’s a record of your problem areas. No point in denying them.
Maybe calculate your maintenance calories for your current weight and make a plan to hit that. Sometimes the best we can do is not gain for a while. You can get back to a deficit when you’ve got ahold of the process.
I think I made goal, down 110 lbs, by fighting my sweet tooth to a draw. I find cookies, cake, and baked goods in general are hard to work with. I manage to stay away from baked goods mostly by eating ice cream. If it’s a frozen diet friendly treat I’ve probably tried it. After researching and testing treats in general I found that I can be satisfied with about 100-125 calories worth if ice cream. I can scarf down that in cookies or cake in a flash and just want more. Ice cream doesn’t work for everyone but it does for some of us.
But a couple of things about ice cream. Give into some other treat during the day and no ice cream. Those calories are gone. And fail to keep the ice cream under control- that will be the end of the entire ice cream project. That’s strong motivation to stick to the numbers.
Maybe don’t concern yourself with 30 lbs. Think in terms of not gaining and then losing. All you need to get to goal weight is a downward trend and patience. A goal 30 lbs away is probably best thought of as wait and see when you get closer.
Hope something here helps you. I had to reinvent my plan about 4 times to get to goal. Few human undertakings track on a straight line. Just how it is. Good luck.2
