we all have them. I was just wondering, what do your cheat days consist of?

I don't have cheat days. I rarely deprive myself of something that I want to eat. So no, we all don't have cheat days.

I don't have purposeful cheat days but if I really want something on any given day, I make room for it or if I go over that day, I try to make up for it the next as long as it all washes out during the week. For me, personally, I don't think cheat days would be good as I would probably go too crazy. This works better for me.

I didn't have anything I would describe as a "cheat' day when I was losing and don't at maintenance. I have a healthy relationship with food and I understand proper nutrition, so I've never deprived myself and there has never been anything "off limits" food wise that I would have to cheat. Also, I ate over my calorie goal frequently when losing...I still lossed because I was still in deficit overall and at most I would be at maintenance...very rarely over my maintenance calories, and even if I was, no biggie..there were other days that I was under goal.

"cheat days" usually mean a lot of disordered thinking and an unhealthy relationship with food and general lack of nutrition knowledge.
  • No cheat days for me! ;)
  • I don't have cheat days. I have a healthy lifestyle. ;)

    Agreed.
  • I definitely have days where I eat closer to TDEE than to deficit.

But I'm not cheating. I'm just making different choices that day.

A few days ago I went a little crazy and had a big slice of Brozinni's Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza for lunch and then I had BW3's 10 wings w/ fat free Ranch and Teriyaki sauce for dinner.

    + me

ed: The thing is, for me, cheating is something you do where you bend or break the rules to gain some advantage - so it doesn't fit this situation. If I bend or break the rules of eating sensibly, I gain no advantage, I lose.

On the other hand, like others have said above, I eat what I want to eat and make choices, and some days I make choices that are totally about health, and other days I make choices that are less healthy and more for fun, but I manage those choices either by factoring in the calories, or "paying" for them or whatever. I'm not cheating.

i never cheat. that is because i am not on a diet. I am on a healthy-er eating plan that i will be able to follow the rest of my life.

Now, when I want to have something that I call "naughty" (an indulgence) I choose mindfully what i really want, and i find that if i eat it at lunch time, then it seems to work out. I dont indulge 2 meals in a day because that would screw up my allowances for nutrients for the day. im tweaking my choices, so this seems to work. i may not be able to do this every week, but maybe every 2 weeks, if i see my food choices are not helping me, then i choose to lay that aside. so i never cheat, but i do enjoy an indulgence once in a while, and that is not cheating. i work it in to my nutrients and therefore i am always onward and upward in this path.
