Lime Water and Gaining Weight

I'm curious about lime water and my weight goals. I've surfed the web and have read that fresh-squeezed lemon/lime juice added to water can help regulate and even help you lose weight. It also makes your body more alkaline, cleanses your liver and has some other benefits. However, it doesn't say exactly how drastic the changes are. MY question is this: As a lean, and by lean I mean 170-pound, 21-year old male, who participates in regular exercise, would drinking lime water on a regular basis hinder me from gaining weight? I'm trying to pack on 15-pounds by the end of next month and I want to know if lime water would negate my progress. I don't think it would but I'm not a nutritionist or dietitian so I'm not really sure. I like the benefits (Especially the clean liver part since I'm a 21-year old college student) and it tastes super refreshing. Thanks for the advice/input!

The lime might help you to drink more water. But as far as pH changes... that's internet BS. Use it if it helps you drink more water, but other than the extra vitamins you might get there's not real value outside of encouraging drinking more water. We all need more water. It is not going to hinder you gaining weight. Lift weights and eat more! Good luck!!!0

Really appreciate the feedback. I drink plenty of water but like you said, lime just encourages more consumption. Great to know I can drink it without worry. Thanks again.0

Weight loss and weight gain are all about calories. A bit of lime doesn't really add more calories, so it's not going to affect you either way (it certainly won't reduce your calories! ) If it helps you get water, by all means add it in!!
As far as the alkaline … it's called citric acid for a reason. (Hint: acid is the opposite of alkaline), so I've never understood that.0 -
Lime doesn't have the kind of benefits touted online, but it does make water much tastier. I always have a squirt of lime juice in my soda water.0

I go nuts over lime juice in water! LOVE IT.
That said, I have noticed that having citric acid in my stomach messes with me a bit while I'm doing cardio, especially running. So if there's any reason it would keep me from losing weight, that's it. YMMV.0 -
lime (1 tbsp) with warm water (1 cup) on empty stomach (first thing in the morning) is suppose to help you lose weight as per ayurvedic medicine. If you believe in it lol. I think it also suppresses hunger and makes you drink more water - that is the main way in which it helps you lose weight if you regularly take lime with warm water.
I doubt it will inhibit you from putting on some muscle.0
