    you dont have to work out at all to lose weight. Weight loss happens in the kitchen.

    other than that, your workout schedule is dependent on your goals and reason for working out. if for general cardiovascular health, I believe the current medical advice (it seems to change constantly) is 3-5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. Someone can correct me if I am incorrect.

    Strength training has other additional benefits in addition to cardio.
