New here!! Protein levels low?

Just joined after being referred by several friends from the gym. I am ex military and began working out many years ago. I lean towards crossfit as that's about as close as I can get to what the military incorporates lol. I enjoy exercise, exploring, golf, tennis, guitar and piano. I'm a huge animal lover. To the point of going to an all plant based diet. That was until I recently found out from a physical that my protein levels were low?? How can an extremely healthy man who supplements his ultra healthy diet with several protein shakes daily. I found after lots of research that animal protein and plant based protein are not absorbed by the body equally. Going back to a diet which includes poultry and seafood my protein levels are back to normal. So just because you drink a plant based protein shake with 30 gm of protein does not mean you are getting 30 or even 5. I'm not a dietician or very knowledgeable about the scientific process but I'm fairly certain others have been in the same boat as me. Thx for the kind welcome! Kirk

I was vegan for years and finally downgraded to vegetarianism. it was difficult to figure out which ingredients has which amino acids to try to get a complete protein. Plus my undying love of cheese!

I still eat mainly plant proteins but I supplement with dairy.
  • Nice! Have you had your protein levels checked since you changed your diet? I was shocked to learn by my primary care physician that I had low protein. I expected to be unusually high with all the protein supplements I incorporated into my diet. I believe our bodies only absorb 35 grams an hour (or close to that anyway) and I was eating about 300 grams of PLANT PROTEIN yet I was lower than the average man my age... Lol.. I don't get it lol.
