Still Good People in the World

We need a thread to document experiences we have with the good people in the world. Yes, they do exist.

I'll start. The other day I went to the gym, realized upon arrival I couldn't find my log book in my gym bag. Given it never leaves the bag except for a workout, I conclude I left it out of my bag my last trip. Nothing expensive, but it does contain over ten years' of records of workouts.

On a whim, I checked the lost and found, and sure enough, somebody had actually taken the time to turn it in. Not a big sweat for them, but it meant a lot to me.

A bigger help came for my son. He couldn't find his wallet one night after getting home from work, started to mentally back track where he'd last seen it. Suddenly his face went white as a ghost, because he realized he'd tossed it up onto the dash of his truck, then drove home...with the window wide open. No wallet in the truck means it must have fallen out during his drive home. And it's now rush hour.

So he leaps into his truck and tears off down the road. Just minutes later a stranger knocks on our door and asks if my son lives here. We ask why, and he shows us my son's wallet, says that his wife noticed it while sitting idle at a red light, risked traffic to fetch it from the middle of the road, and then googled the address on the driver's license.

We did a quick surreptitious check of the contents, and everything was there...ID, credit cards, even a couple hundred dollars cash from him having just gotten paid. My wife immediately called my son, while I asked if they would be willing to stay for our son to thank them in person. Over the phone, my son offered them $100 cash reward for returning the wallet. But the man just smiled, politely declined, and they went on their way.
