Amusement Park Rides

Last night my family and I went to the county fair. My 5-year-old is able to go on some of the bigger rides this year but needs a parent for encouragement. My husband gets motion sickness so I have become her designated ride partner. We went on the gravitron (or something similar to that) and it was fine. But when we tried to go on a sitting ride with an over-the-top latch... I don't think it was closing properly. The person operating the ride kept looking at me and I could tell he did not want to kick me off the ride with my young daughter there. He told everyone the ride was having problems and everyone had to get off.
I don't know for sure I was the problem but it sure felt like it... I know I need to lose weight but have been lacking motivation. I have been feeling really bad about myself for about a month now... hopefully, this is the motivation I need to get back on track.
Anyway... I just needed a place to talk about the experience.

Oh, so many things…first off, looking at your profile pic, there is no way the latch would’ve had difficulty closing due to your size. I know it may be hard (it would be for me), but I think you need to set that aside. Second, these ride operators are doing everything to make money for their employers and they’re not emptying an entire ride because one person could not fit in the seat. I have read a number of stories here on MyFitnessPal, in which people have been asked to leave a ride due a restraint not latching— individuals, not everyone on the ride. It sounds like you’ve been struggling for a bit with “feeling really bad about myself”. Thirdly, and possibly most importantly, please consider seeking a counselor. Counselors help people with all sorts of difficulties, not just those with severe mental illnesses. I wish you the best.3

A couple years back our local county carnival had a mishap that dumped a mom, grandmother, and five year old, two and a half stories.
Miraculously, everyone survived with minor injuries and one broken leg.
Take this one as a good thing and don’t worry about it.2 -

Thank you! I just wanted to throw out that my profile pic has not been updated in a long while. I have since then stopped using the app and gained a bunch of weight back and then some. I am just starting back. I do really appreciate your feedback!

The bottom line is you want to lose weight because you feel self conscious. How many times have I read on here that not fitting into amusement park rides or a airplane seat was the motivation for getting down to weight loss business. You're not alone. You may very well be wrong that is was "you" that caused the ride to shut down. If by chance it was.. you happened to have the nicest most well mannered carnival ride operator in the world and no one knows the difference.
Glad you're on here.. just back to your fitness plan.. it is weight and it can be lost. You can do this.

I think this is just an issue of being overly self-conscious. Like others have stated above, I highly doubt this was anything involving you. Probably a ride safety issue and it needed to be addressed.
Keep working toward your goals, you got this!0 -
so.... i dont go on rides that can be assembled in a day and taken down in half an hour But, that fact aside ....
Could it have been you? Possibly.
Could it have been the RIDE? Possibly. more than likely... PROBABLY. especially if they made EVERYONE get off. If it was just you, they wouldn't do that to spare one persons feelings. even in front of their kid.
With the number of rides that we hear about in the news every year (and imagine the ones we DON'T hear about) with fatalities or injuries, would you have wanted to take that risk had they FORCED the latch? (and I've seen them do it). ESPECIALLY with your child on it?
I can think of two instances of children being killed on rides in much larger amusement parks (where I WILL go on the rides) just in this year alone, one just this month.
Sometimes it can be 'little' things like this, though, that can motivate people to lose weight. I STILL look at weight limits for rides and activities and different things, and I haven't needed to in YEARS.
Work on your goals. Work on being healthier. You'll get to where you want to be5 -
I don't think it had anything to do with you...they're not going to empty an entire ride for you...I think you're being a bit overly self conscious on that front.
They put these rides up very quickly and they can be torn down even quicker to move onto the next fair...shiz goes wrong with these things all the time.3
