I Gained it Back.... Mostly

So,I never thought it would happen. After dropping around 90 lbs I promised myself I would NEVER gain it back. I never understood how people, after dropping a significant amount of weight, could just gain it back. But here I am, 60 lbs heavier feeling defeated and ashamed that I allowed myself to get back to where I used to be (mostly). I don't want to go outside, I don't want to go to family gatherings because I know, that the first thing that everyone will notice, and likely mention, is my weight gain. This seems to be the only topic of conversation between me and those I know (how much weight I've lost/how much weight I've gained). I feel like it's the only sense of substance that anyone sees. My major characteristic, the fat girl who lost weight. I will not take me gaining this weight back as a complete loss though, as I have learned a valuable lession from this. Weight loss and taking up less space does not make/keep you happy. It doesn't solve your problems. I won't necessarily make you love yourself. I have learned the importance of self acceptance and self love in all of my forms. So, perhaps this is my opportuniy, on my second weight loss journey, to practice self love and appreciate myself along the way. I worked hard to loose the weight the first time, thinking about doing it again exhausts and disappoints me but, one day at a time right....

I've lost and gained weight back all my life. It's pretty depressing at times!
Here's some perspective: The human ability to store so much energy as fat is one of our main superpowers that helped us to thrive as a species. It's ironic that, now that some of us have attained food security, we curse the very superpower that got us here! Never in history has there been so many of us able to pick and choose between foods, eating exactly what we want whenever we want. It is an incredible blessing, if you think about it. It also has consequences!
My advice is: don't get sad, mad, or defeated, take advantage of this blessing and take control of what you eat!
Also, we are living in a very stressful time, and it helps a lot to have friends and family that don't judge you. I hope you can find some, it really helps!
Best of luck!5 -
“No guilt, but no excuses.”
That was advice I heard here. Just get back on-track. Best advice ever. Remember what worked best before and was easiest to do, and focus on that, it will probably be most sustainable in your life.
If your weight seems like it’s the only topic of discussion, come with another topic to change to. If people compliment your “progress” based solely upon your weight, smile and change the topic. If they ask you what happened based solely upon your weight, smile and change the topic. If they ask you how you’re losing weight and doing so well, smile and change the topic. Be more than just your weight.
Showcase your entire self. You’ve got this!6 -
I'll agree with the guy who pointed out..that most of us have gained weight during this strange stressful time of covid. I went to a gathering of people I have not seen in years; all of us were overweight. every single one of us.. It is because of the lockdown. Give yourself a break.. Also.. you did not gain it all back.. you are still down 30 pounds. Just pick yourself up ..like all of us are doing... and get back to it.. You can lose it again. Best to you.4
