Hey Guys,
My name is Amanda and I am 32 years old. I have struggled with my weight since I became pregnant with my son. Prior to that I never worried as I stayed in a healthy weight range (even through my first pregnancy) however it was at the higher end of the healthy range. With my second pregnancy in late 2015, I became violently ill with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) which was causing me to get sick around 20 times a day. I was sick so much I was constantly in the hospital getting medications, fluids, nutrients, etc. By the end of my pregnancy, I was sick so much I had to have an induction as they said the baby was no longer receiving any nutrients from me as he had taken all I had to give and was beginning to lose weight as well. After I had him I was underweight and looked bad but of course that quickly changed as well! Since then (6 years later) it has been a constant struggle with my weight I do not eat TOO much, yes I've kept diaries, yes I've done diets, I've tried intermittent fasting, going to the gym, cutting carbs, etc and though I may lose around 5lbs nothing else will budge, I've even used a personal trainer and a nutritionist and dietician. I went to the doctor and my weight was 175lbs at 5 foot and 3/4 an inch almost 5'1". He placed me on Phentermine 37.5mg daily to help me combat the weight gain and drew labs. I was SURE it was a thyroid issue maybe the pregnancy caused? However, labwork came back showing that my thyroid was fine, but my ANA was positive 160 titer with a speckled pattern and thus they suspect an autoimmune disease (I have hair loss and fatigue and pain all the time and have since I was young) but I've been on PHENTERMINE this whole time 1 pill a day and I barely have energy to get through my day, writting this right now at 4 pm and I am about to fall asleep. Oh, and best of all even with me NOT eating too much or too many calories or the wrong food etc, and even cutting out soda and the phetermine my weight is now at 190lbs. I have no clue what to do anymore and I DON'T want to look like this!

My autoimmune hypothyroid condition caused extreme fatigue, brain fog, and weight gain for a long time. My first test was negative and led to multiple additional tests. A new doc about five months after that started over with the testing and there it was. One of the best things he did for me was refer me to a counselor, and I highly recommend it. Over the years I have had additional diagnoses of autoimmune conditions, one of which caused the fatigue to return. It’s never easy being tired and not getting the results you crave.
I fully understand your weight is a concern but have to wonder if there is someone who can help you manage the various stresses you are having. Sounds like you might need an advocate like a clinically based social worker who can make sure you get answers and don’t fall between the cracks by having a voice with your medical provider(s).
One of the groups I’ve been part of online advocates that people who are physically and emotionally tired bring a trusted friend to doctor’s appointments to take notes and make sure all your concerns are being aired.
Best, Boo1
