Nutrition info on menus?

I just recently went to New York for work. I was pleasantly surprised at the many restaurants that really did place the calorie content directly on the menu! I can not express how helpful this was for me. While I am really trying to make healthy living a lifestyle,it truly helps for the calories to stare you in the face. So when you think about the appetizer trio but then see it is 1, 700 calories you think twice and opt for the 500 calorie Grilled Chicken Sandwich!

The state I live in-Ohio-has yet to follow through with doing this. I am curious....how many of you live places that seem to have truly followed through with placing the calorie content right there on the menu?

I know New York is one state that it's required by law to provide the nutritional information. I hope other states follow suit.

It's only required in NYC as far as I'm aware. I've been to upstate places that do not post these, but I agree that it's extremely helpful to stay on track when we are informed!

Here, only the "diet options" have calories...if those do. I wish we had a law like NY that required calorie counts on the menu!

I wonder if anyone is studying how calories on the menu affects what people order in NY? That would be interesting to know!

I do believe that NYC is required to put nutritional information on their menus like previously stated. I live in NJ and went to the movies about 2 weeks ago and I looked up at the snack board and saw that calories were listed next to each item. That was a surprise!

In California, restaurants have to provide nutritional information to guests upon request. They usually have something printed out to show those that ask rather than put it on the menu. However, I think the law only applies to restaurant owners that have more than 5 restaurants (i.e. chains and affiliated establishments).
