Lifetime of dieting!

Hi MFP. I’m a 52-year old female in the U.K. who has been on one type of diet or another since I can remember. I’ve followed Atkins, SlimFast, Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Cambridge… you name it I’ve probably tried it. To make things worse I’m at that stage in my life where losing weight just seems nigh on impossible no matter what I do. Please tell me it isn’t so. I’d love to connect with like-minded people and we can hopefully support and encourage each other along the way.
I have approximately 6 stones to lose so I’ve definitely got a challenge on my hands. With encouragement from you guys I’m sure I can do it. If you want me as a MFP friend please feel free to add me.

What I did was aim for a permanent, healthy lifestyle that would only support a healthy weight.
Basically, I went straight into maintenance, because the maintenance diet for a healthy weight is not enough calories to sustain my obese body.
I gave up having a weight loss goal and instead had a lifestyle goal, and then decided to accept whatever body came from a lifestyle that was good for me.
My loss was slow, but I ultimately got down to a very lean healthy weight and have kept the weight off very easily.
Good luck, it can be done.3 -
It's not impossible. Down 6 stone here since May 2020. The first big change was getting through my skull the fact that the way I'd been eating did not constitute 'normal.' So there wasn't going to be any temporary magic diet after which I could eventually return to my old ways of eating. I was no longer short-term slimming , I was eating in a way to best support the healthy body I wanted.
Here at MFP, I scrupulously logged and measured every morsel that crossed my lips and limited my calories to 1200-1500 most days. I cut waaay back on added sugars and highly processed carbs, but wasn't maniacal about it. If I had a candy bar or pizza with pals, it didn't derail my plan or give me permission to binge or quit. I just got back on track. Admittedly, I've had serious struggles, hit a few bumps in the road and have by no means mastered my eating issues. But I have gained enough experience to not to let the stumbles become total disasters. One day at a time...
You can do this. ❤️2
