Imported calories nonsensical

I am male, weight 83kgs and I am 178cm tall. The internet thinks I use around 0.04 calories a step.
My iPhone and my Withings Smart watch both think I have walked around 4000 steps. Therefore my calorie burn should be around 160 cals.
If I select the iPhone as the steps provider in MyFitnessPal the app says 4,107 steps and 69 calories - 0.0168 calories per step. if I select the Withings watch I get 4,079 steps and 528 calories - 0.129 calories a step. Neither are even vaguely correct!
What the hell is going on?

What's your activity level set at? You won't get credit for every single step taken as even the basic sedentary activity level presumes some movement during the day. You will get additional calories only when you exceed the activity level MFP expects based on your settings.0
