What specific details are you struggling with. Start with the basics. Log your food as accurately as you can. Don't even necessarily worry about a deficit yet, just start logging. Once that becomes easier, start working on maintaining a deficit.1

In what way? You just put in your stats, activity level, and desired rate of loss. The calculator does the rest. Your activity level is your day to day hum drum. Using MFP as designed, deliberate exercise isn't accounted for in your activity level so you log it after the fact and get additional calories to account for that exercise activity.0
