Pre op

Hi I’m 10 days post total hip replacement. I went to change my activity level to low and my calories went down to 1000 daily which I think is impossible. Can anyone recommend what I can do my calorie intake pre op was 1600
Thanks

MFP won't give you a calorie budget that low, are you sure?

Was the previous 1600 level a weight maintenance goal or a weight loss goal?

What activity (type and volume) were you doing before that you can't currently do now?

Do you have weight to lose or does posting in the Maintaining Weight forum indicate you are at goal weight?

You can go into "Goals" and manually set your calorie goal to whatever you want.

On the web, it's by clicking "edit"

What Ann said. Eat to maintain right now. I broke my ankle in July - thought it was a bad sprain, it was a bad sprain and a break. Your body needs calories to heal, and you will make it much harder on yourself than you need to if you eat at a deficit while trying to heal.

PS: Even at the number to maintain, I was short changing my calorie burn due to increased effort in mobility and had to bump up my calories a couple of times. And that was with such MUCH more minor than hip replacement.

Post surgery is not really the best time to try to lose weight. You need calories to heal...healing is a big job for the human body, especially something like hip replacement. Personally, I'd set it to maintain as to not slow the healing process.

As a double hip replacement recipient, I can tell you that deficit eating post-op is a terrible idea. Your body needs adequate calories to recover from a huge trauma. This is NOT the moment to limit calories.

I hope you're doing well and aren't having much pain from the surgery.
I'm two weeks out from foot surgery and found that the first few days, I didn't eat much at all. However, my appetite has picked up once again. Now, I have to be careful not to eat out of boredom! ;)
